Jo O’Bryan

Hello, my name is Jo O’Bryan (they/them) and I’m a student therapist at Creative Family Counseling. Currently, I am pursuing master’s degrees in Social Work and Couples and Family Therapy at the University of Louisville. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I have been teaching yoga since 2019 and I enjoy incorporating mindfulness and somatic techniques into therapy, along with any spiritual and healing practices that are important to you.
I strive to be anti-oppressive in practice by considering social and cultural influences on wellbeing and by actively affirming identities important to you. Courage and curiosity are key values of mine; I am committed to ongoing learning and self-reflection to best support you. Your voice and perspective will be centered in therapy – you hold so much wisdom already! We will draw upon the strength and resources you already have and work collaboratively towards your vision for healing. I believe in the power of relational and collective healing – by caring for ourselves we can better care for those we love and our world.
I enjoy working with individuals across the lifespan, along with couples and families. I have experience in crisis intervention work for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as with individuals experiencing housing insecurity and other social inequities. I am a Louisville native and value fun and rest in addition to this work. I love sipping coffee, hiking, and lying in the sunshine.
