Zephan Schroeder, LMFT

Hey, I’m Zephan (pronounced zeh-fin)! I’m a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate at our Prospect location. I graduated in May of 2026 from UofL’s Couple’s and Family Therapy program and practice under the supervision of Sara Schuhmann, LMFT, LCSW. Before starting professionally, I was a student intern here at CFC for 2 years!

Professionally, I’m a very experiential, hands-on therapist; When you enter my room, you will have my undivided attention and experience my authentic personality. I’ll tell you anecdotes about my own life, make jokes, share my opinions, and encourage you throughout. A lot of people have had experiences with therapists that sit behind their notepad and show reservation towards connecting with their clients, and that is the last thing I want my clients to experience. I want you to know that I am a human being just like you, and everything I share with you I fully believe. I’ve often found that many people don’t need an intricate treatment plan, or an experimental exercise: they improve when they have someone in their corner that cares and believes in them, and I can be that person.

I have a good amount of experience with individuals, couples, and families of all identities (ethnicity, gender/sexual orientation, age), but have found to do some of my best work with men, especially adolescent boys. The world of mental health can be very intimidating for many men, which I have experienced first-hand, and am always ready to help where I can. As a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate, I also operate with a systemic lens: problems are rarely (if ever) isolated, so how can we broaden our village to make the changes to best heal and improve? If this sounds appealing to you and/or your family, I’d love to do my part in helping you however I can.

Personally, I’m a townie from Bloomington, Indiana (Go IU!) that was born in Chicago. I’m a huge fan of Chicago pro sports, namely the Bears and the Bulls, and am always ready to have a passionate discussion about either league. I also love weightlifting, movies, video games, and board games (I’m always looking for additions to my office!). But most importantly, I might be the biggest cat person you’ve ever met; I’d be happy to exchange pictures of my two boys, Momo and Monkey.
