Ian McDermott, MFTA

“There is a light within each of us. Everyone deserves a chance to shine.”

Hello, my name is Ian, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate under the supervision of Dr. Karen Westbrooks, PhD, LMFT. I recently obtained my Master of Science in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville in 2025 and my BA in Psychology from Indiana University Southeast.

Sometimes, therapy can be overwhelming and intimidating at first if you can’t see where you’re going. My goal is to provide a safe and supporting space to let your inner light shine brightly. I love working with children, adolescents, couples, families, and young adults and I am LGBTQIA+ affirming. My overall therapeutic approach blends elements of Play Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Collaborative Therapy. One of my biggest strengths as a therapist is my creativity and as a therapist, my goal is to provide a space where clients can express their creativity in order to gain new insight into themselves and the issues that they may be challenged by.

Therapy can be scary at times, but no one should go through the darkness alone. As you begin your healing journey, I hope to shine a light on the path ahead.

You can reach me at [email protected] or 812-818-2518.
