Janet Cabral, Marriage and Family Therapy Associate
Welcome! I’m Janet Cabral, a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate with a Master’s degree in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville. My journey in the field of mental health and therapy has been profoundly shaped by my diverse experiences and passion for helping individuals, couples, families, and children achieve emotional well-being and stronger relationships.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in various settings, including university counseling centers, family health centers, refugee support services, and educational institutions. These experiences have equipped me with a broad skill set and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by different populations.
Working with children for over 10 years has had a significant impact on my work today. As a former Registered Behavior Therapist, I implemented Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) interventions for children and young adults with developmental disorders such as Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Having worked with children in the classroom setting as well as in their homes, has given me an elaborate understanding of how different systems affect us. Working with children from ages 6+ whom come from diverse backgrounds has given me valuable experience as a new therapist.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in several evidence-based models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Child-Centered Play Therapy. I also incorporate a positive discipline approach, which emphasizes mutual respect, encouragement, and collaborative problem-solving. These models allow me to tailor my interventions to the unique needs of each client, fostering resilience and promoting healthy coping strategies.
Fluent in Spanish, I am committed to providing culturally sensitive and inclusive care. My bilingual skills enable me to connect with and support Spanish-speaking clients, ensuring they feel understood and respected throughout their therapeutic journey.
I bring a wealth of professional skills to my practice, including empathy and active listening, conflict resolution, solution-focused therapy, cultural competence, and crisis intervention. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel empowered to explore their challenges and achieve meaningful change.
I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward healing and growth. Please feel free to reach out to schedule an appointment or to learn more about my services. Together, we can work towards a brighter and more fulfilling future.
